Savoie FRANCE

“Somewhere in the centre of Europe, in France, bordering Italy, you find the Savoie in the heart of the Alpes where I grew up participating in lots of outdoor activities like skiing, football, cycling, mountain biking and sailing on Lake Bourget.  From an early age I’ve roamed the most beautiful mountain chains on foot, on cross-country skis, on trail bikes and in 4WD, including the Chartreuse, the Bauges and the Beaufortain just a few kilometres from Mont Blanc.  In these mountains EDF has build their biggest dams, including Roselend, the most well known.  I know the magnificent Savoyard valleys like the back of my hand, like the Maurienne, the Tarentaise, and the Combe de Savoie.  The mountains, like the ocean, is a hostile environment.  Caution must be exercised and so safety equipment is required such as a GPS and a mobile phone in case of emergency.  The Miolans Castle was a prison until the French Revolution.  It’s the ideal French department for outdoor activities all year round, like hiking, paragliding, rafting, rock climbing, and mountaineering on the peaks of Tignes, Val d’Isere, the Arcs, Courchevel or Val Thorens…  The most beautiful ski resorts are Savoyard, not meaning to crow.  Exploring nature in the Savoie is really great, it’s fun, and I’ll take you with my on my quad bike as your guide.  Aiguebelette Lake is ideal in summer for a refreshing dip after hiking in the mountains.  I want to pay homage to this little corner of paradise where I was born, so I’ve made this documentary so that you too can get to know the Savoie Off the Beaten Track.”  Guillaume Ravau
